Markeaton Park

Situated less than ten minutes away from Littleover Lodge is Derby’s most visited park and one of the most popular attractions in the whole of the East Midlands. If you’re on a break from the hustle and bustle of day to day life, Markeaton Park provides an idyllic escape for all to enjoy. Steeped in history, this park has plenty of stories to tell from its ancient veteran trees and historic lost roads to the remains of a Second World War army camp.

What to Do Whilst You’re There

If you’re staying in one of our gastropubs across Derbyshire, we want you to make the most out of your stay. That’s why we can’t recommend Markeaton Park highly enough. There is so much going on in Derbyshire’s haven of activities and countryside that you and the kids will be entertained for hours and hours.

If you’re planning on visiting with your family, your kids can try their hands at a variety of activities such as mini golf, footgolf, the Skyline High Ropes and Pitch and Putt. Not only that, but they also have a state of the art Mundy Play Centre. We hope you’ve packed your trunks too because the paddling pool is perfect for cooling down in the Summer.

For our more adult visitors, there is plenty more in store at Markeaton Park. For example, it is a hotspot for birdwatchers with everything from Kingfishers to Nuthatches spotten in the grounds. In fact, a Markeaton Park bird spotting list can be found on their website. You and your partner can also stay active using the outdoors sports facilities available. From tennis courts to our cricket field, there are plenty of spaces available to hire. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a more relaxing experience, the park is full of quiet walks and gardens for you to explore at your heart’s content.

Food and Drink

Once you start to get a little peckish, there is plenty on offer at the Orangery Cafe and the Markeaton Park Craft Village. Once an 18th century Hall and stables, this ‘village’ is now jam packed with eight unique craft units, an Ice cream hut and the Orangery Cafe. With a wide array of hot and cold food on offer, you’re sure to find something that hits the spot.

Following this, after a long day at the Park, you can return to the Littleover Lodge for a filling meal at the best gastropub in Derbyshire.
