Get Ready For Derby Festé 2019

Get Ready For Derby Festé 2019

Friday 27th September marks the beginning of Derby Festé 2019. And it’s shaping up to be an unmissable event in the city this year.

What Is Derby Festé 2019?

Derby Festé first hit the city in September 2007. Originally an occasion to celebrate the opening of the Westfield Derby Shopping Centre (now known as Intu Derby) and the QUAD arts centre, the event has grown over the years to become a much loved festival in its own right.

Today, Derby Festé aims to showcase the city of Derby and what it has to offer with a programme of spectacular entertainment that is suitable for the whole family from both local and internationally recognised artists and performers.

What’s On At Derby Festé 2019?

This years Derby Festé theme is ‘Moon, Space & Tides’, so it’s sure to be out of this world in more ways than one!

In fact, the moon itself will be paying a visit to the city. That is, in the form of an internally lit installation at Derby Cathedral! From 17th September, visitors can feast their eyes on ‘Museum Of the Moon’ – a touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram. This stunning exhibit measures 7 metres in diameter and features detailed NASA imagery on the surface for an ultra-realistic finish that is simply breathtaking.

Performances on Friday 27th September also include One Moon – A Human Wave Of Connection, which sees a beautiful moon crafted from biodegradable materials flow down a human wave to the river, and award-winning Catalan Circus company Los Galindos showcasing circus-style acrobatics, trapeze and contemporary dance on Cathedral Green.

Also not to be missed is the Full Moon Parade, which will make its way through St Peters Quarter and Cathedral Quarter before coming to an end at Derby Cathedral at 9pm.

Saturday 28th September is also jam packed with unmissable events throughout the day including a skateboarding competition, Tickertape Parade, Moon & Tide Virtual Reality Experiences and various street performances.
