3 Reasons Why You Should Take A Staycation This Winter

Summer is gone. Autumn is here. And soon it will be winter! And unless you have a winter break scheduled to some far flung tropical destination (and if so, lucky you!), this time of year can seem a bit bleak and unforgiving – especially with the dark mornings and evenings closing in.

It’s always nice to have something to look forward to on duller days. But if your budget doesn’t quite stretch to 2 weeks on a sunny beach in Mexico, how about a staycation? A staycation is a holiday spent at home or nearby. It is, in short, a break from reality. A chance to unwind, and the opportunity to explore or do something entirely different from your normal routine.

Staycations are often overlooked. But you really don’t need to lead the jet set life to get a well deserved break. Here are our 3 reasons why we think you need a staycation this winter!

Escape and…Relax!

The real reason we all love holidays is not because of the sun (although that does help!) but because they allow us to put some distance between ourselves and real life. And if you think that a holiday close to home won’t do that for you – think again! If what matters to you is fitting in some serious self-care, enjoying a bit of fresh air, and new surroundings, then a staycation is just the thing. Whether you choose to fly solo or with a loved one, booking yourself into a hotel just 30 minutes away from home can give you the opportunity to switch off, wind down, and chill out. All you need to do is turn off your phone, pack a few clothes and go!

Here in the UK, there’s so much to see and do. If you enjoy getting out and about, there are a huge range things to get up to. Including dining at local restaurants, trying out something new, or just exploring the great outdoors. You could even take the opportunity to try something totally new on your staycation.  You could rent a bike, attend a class or teach yourself a new hobby!

Save Yourself Some Cash

There’s no doubt about it, holidays abroad can be hard on your pocket. And with Christmas coming up, you may be tightening your belt. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a precious few days away from the hustle and bustle! A staycation is much cheaper and easier to plan. You don’t have to book plane tickets, buy a visa, renew your passport, or get up at silly o’clock to make your flight. Depending on your budget, you are in control of how much you spend and where you go! There’s no doubt, a staycation is fantastic for those on a budget. With a little bit (not a lot!) of planning you can make your money go a long way while experiencing new things in similar surroundings.

Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

We are all becoming more conscious about how our day-to-day lives affect the planet. A staycation is the perfect way to holiday and do your bit to reduce climate change. There’s absolutely no need to travel to far flung places. Just take a look at hotels local to you and choose one that piques your interest! With no arduous car or plane journeys, you’ll be less stressed and more green! You could also consider taking a train or other public transport to your chosen destination instead and using public transport to explore.
