Attenborough Nature Reserve

Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life at Attenborough Nature Reserve. Opened by Sir David Attenborough himself and spanning over 205 hectares of land, Attenborough Nature Reserve provides endless opportunities for walkers, photographers and anyone looking for a tranquil afternoon.

What to Do Whilst You’re There?

Thanks to the scenic walking trails at Attenborough Nature Reserve, there are plenty of ways that you can explore your surroundings. Follow the signs for the Tufted duck route, Skylark Trail or Kingfisher Trail and embrace the natural beauty of all 205 hectares of protected beauty.

If you’re a keen photographer, don’t forget your camera. This Nature Reserve will provide you with endless opportunities to capture serene landscapes and candid creatures. Renowned for being the home of a vast array of birds, grab your binoculars, bird spotting book and set up shop in one of the reserves many hides. If you’re lucky and patient, you may even catch a snap of the resident otters. However, please don’t follow them as we don’t want you disturbing their home. The Attenborough Nature Reserve also hosts regular events that can be found on their events page.

Food and Drink

Whilst you’re there, you’re likely to work up quite an appetite. Luckily, Attenborough Nature Reserve has an onsite cafe where you can enjoy a hot drink or snack. You can also head into the farm shop located on the reserve to treat yourself to a range of fresh fruit and vegetables. There is also plenty of space for you to settle down and enjoy a picnic with your partner or friends.

Once you return from your day out, you can rest your weary legs in Littleover Lodge’s cafe and enjoy the hearty delights that await you on our Gastropub menu. From traditional pub classics such as Steak and Ale Pie to pizzas, fresh out of our stonebaked oven, there’s plenty for you to refuel with. Renowned as the best gastropub in Derby, you’re guaranteed fresh, high quality food made to order accompanied by the highest quality service.
