Fun Things To Do In Derby Over Christmas

Fun Things To Do In Derby Over Christmas

Have you heard, there is only 3 months until Christmas? Some people don’t start thinking about Christmas until much later, whilst others are already counting down the days. What better way to spread the festive cheer than taking part in festive activities. If you live in Derby or you are staying in the Derbyshire area over Christmas this year, there is plenty to see and do. Let’s have a look at what kind of festive activities Derby has to offer for this upcoming festive season.

Visit The Chatsworth Christmas Market

A trip to Chatsworth House & Gardens is always worth a visit for the whole family. From 4th to 26th November, you can visit the Chatsworth Christmas Market. With more than 100 stalls located throughout the estate, along with live music and outdoor bars, it is the perfect Christmas shopping experience for decorations, stocking fillers, gifts and more. Why not grab a hot chocolate or mulled wine while you shop around? For any dog owners, well-behaved dogs are also welcome, but they must be on a lead at all times. Admission to the Christmas markets is free, however, you will need to pay to park your car and, we must reiterate, pre-booking is essential to secure your place.

See A Christmas Musical

Embrace the magic of theatre during the festive season by seeing a Christmas musical. The Derby Youth Musical Theatre will proudly present ‘Nativity! The Musical’ from the 9th to 12th November. Feel-good, funny and festive, this musical will feature hit songs from Sparkle and Shine, Nazareth, One Night and more. Ticket prices start from £19.50 for adults and £17.50 for children.

Go Ice Skating

Is it really Christmas without ice skating? From the 3rd to 31st December, the Cathedral Quarter Ice Rink will make a return to Derby’s Market Place. Adults and children of all ages can take to the ice for an hourly session. Spectators can also watch in the viewing platform and take in the festive atmosphere. This year, new sit-on skate aids are available on a first come, first served basis for those who are new to the ice rink. Prices for adults start at £10 and under 16’s from £7.50. We guarantee tickets will sell out fast for this one so, get booking as soon as possible!

Step Into Winter Wonderland

If musicals or ice skating is not your thing, that’s okay, there are plenty of other festive activities to do. Step into Winter Wonderland at Conkers in Swadlincote. Open from the 25th November right up to the 24th December, you can scroll through the Enchanted Forest and the Valley of Christmas Lights to discover Santa’s Woodland Grotto. Each adult will receive a voucher for mulled wine and a special treat, and children are also given a pre-Christmas treat during their visit. Tickets to Winter Wonderland can be purchased through the Conkers website.

Take A Wreath Making Workshop

If you are looking for something non-traditional or a little different, why not take a wreath making workshop this year? Debbie Bryan will be holding a Wreath Making Workshop at Derby QUAD for all skill levels on the 23th November. Choose from a beautiful selection of dried flowers, greenery and festive adornments such as pine cones, berries and orange slices to create your very own festive arrangement. The workshop also includes tea or coffee and a sweet treat. You never know, wreath making could become a new tradition!
